Beyond Disney and Vegas, the world is surprisingly full of hotels that offer accommodations to those looking to feel like a character in a movie, or to others who simply want to immerse themselves in a world that is normally out of reach. Our list of the best themed hotels is sure to bring your travels to a whole other level and offer an experience that you will never forget.
Reefsuites – Queensland, Australia

Whether it was the impression The Little Mermaid left on us or that of the classic book of Jules Vernes, many have dreamt of living in this world only accessible to us with scuba gear. That is until hotels like the Reefsuites decided to build rooms 10’ under the sea. These underwater suites are located on Reefworld, a floating three-story pontoon, 40 nautical miles from Airlie Beach, off the Great Barrier Reef. Overnight guests experience a mesmerizing underwater show of marine life. There are only two suites available, but these have all the amenities of five-star accommodations and floor-to-ceiling windows, giving guests plenty of opportunities to enjoy the view.
The Georgian House Hotel – London, United Kingdom

It’s probably safe to say that with 500 million copies of Harry Potter books sold, there are plenty of fans out there that will enjoy a stay at the Georgian House boutique Hotel, with its five wizard-themed rooms fitted with Hogwarts-like styling. This hotel also offers a range of Harry Potter-like experiences such as cocktail potion making and wizarding afternoon tea. Whether Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw supporters, Harry Potter fans are sure to enjoy their stay at the Georgian House Hotel.
Hôtel De Glace – Quebec, Canada

When visiting Quebec, your winter fairy-tale would not be complete without a stay at the Hôtel De Glace made entirely of snow and ice. From January through March, you can reserve one of over 40 themed rooms in this hotel, each decorated with majestic sculptures. Explore the Grand Hall, ride the ice slide, enjoy a cocktail at the Ice Bar and if you’re in the mood, why not get married in the magical setting of the ice chapel? Hôtel De Glace was around long before the movie Frozen and we’re convinced Elsa drew some inspiration from it to build her castle.
Ashford Castle Hotel – Cong, Ireland

Have you ever wished you were royalty? Well, we can’t really help you with that, but we can suggest you stay at the Ashford Castle Hotel where you are sure to feel like royalty. This accommodation is a medieval and Victorian castle expanded and turned into a five-star luxury hotel with 83 rooms, each carefully designed to combine the castle’s original features with modern luxuries. As you prance through the halls (because that’s what royalty does), you will be surrounded by art, antique furniture, sumptuous fabrics, and grand chandeliers. Peer through the windows and gaze at the manicured grounds, stunning lake and falcons flying about, as the Ashford Castle Hotel happens to be the oldest falconry school in Ireland. To make the experience even more realistic, you can ask your travel companions to address you as “Your Royal Highness”.
Treehotel – Harads, Sweden

We started with the fish and are wrapping it up with the birds. If you wish to be one with the forest, there is no better place to stay than the Treehotel. Located in a pine forest right outside the town of Harads, an ideal destination to commune with nature. Guests can choose from seven treehouses located 4-6 meters above the ground. Many of the treehouses are futuristic, the most famous being the Mirrorcube camouflaged by mirrored walls that reflect their surroundings. This hotel ticks all the boxes whether you are looking to de-stress, enjoy a romantic getaway or reconnect with your inner child.
Until next time, travel safely!
