This month has been busy, busy, busy for our friends over at Big Brothers Big Sisters West Island. As we gear up for the Holiday season there are lots of exciting projects aimed at giving back to the community and supporting those in need.
November 1st – December 1st
Christmas Yule Logs
For the second year, BBBSWI has partnered with Patisserie Michaud selling delicious yule log cakes! Choose from a variety of flavours like chocolate fudge or maple sugar and support a great cause all with a delicious, festive treat. The proceeds from every sale go directly to funding mentorship programs.
You can order your yule log cake at the link below.
November – December 24th
Gift Baskets
FlightHub is proud to be a part of the wonderful work the organization does and one of our favourites initiatives is underway – Holiday gift baskets! Each year Big Brothers Big Sisters sponsors several families throughout the West Island and surrounding areas. With help from corporate partnerships such as ours and generous community members, each family receives a variety of gifts for parents, kids and sometimes even grandparents. This is the fourth year FlightHub will be participating, sponsoring six families.
September – Ongoing
Recruitment Campaign
Approximately 20 boys are still on the waitlist and looking for their Big Brother. The goal of this campaign is to find male volunteers to get these particular children matched, as some of them have been waiting for quite some time. The campaign will highlight profiles of specific youth who are on the waitlist- their interests, needs, etc. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a mentor you can sign up here: https://westisland.bigbrothersbigsisters.ca/volunteer/
Spotlight Match
Isaac and Jean-Michel
Isaac (Little) and Jean Michel (Big) were matched in September and have already developed an incredible bond. Isaac comes from a very difficult background, and Jean Michel has already proven to be consistent support for Isaac.
One of their goals for the year was to play basketball which they decided to do for their first activity together. Jean-Michel quickly saw that Isaac was a pro! Jean-Michel has since supported Isaac in finding a basketball league and has committed to bringing him to practices and games whenever he can. Since then, they have been doing fun activities every two weeks, like shopping and going to restaurants. Isaac invited Jean-Michel to watch him play basketball with his friends and Jean-Michel is planning on attending Isaac’s games when the season officially starts.
A highlight of their match was attending a Habs game together a few weeks ago- this was Isaac’s first-ever Habs game!
Jean-Michel and Isaac have not been matched for a long time, however, they love their time together and they are both growing together in their relationship.
