Ahhh…romantic-comedies. Aren’t they just the best?! Whether you’re in a grumpy mood and need a pick-me-up, or in a great mood and want to laugh/cry the night away — there’s a rom-com for that! With Valentine’s (or Galentine’s) Day coming up, there’s no better time to share our favourite romantic comedies to watch, while indulging in some chocolate, wine and whatever else your heart desires!

Sleepless in Seattle

Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks — need I say more? These two are a legendary duo in the romance world and their chemistry is incredible to watch. In a nutshell, Sam (Tom Hanks) is recently widowed and his 8 year-old son decides to volunteer him to share his feelings on a night-time radio show. Many women are touched by his story, but Annie (Meg Ryan) wonders if this man might be her destiny. She is deeply compelled to meet Sam and *spoiler alert* actually leaves her fiancé in order to follow her heart! While this story may be a little far-fetched for today’s viewers, its absolutely beautiful and really makes you think twice about your own life. Moral of the story — always follow your gut!

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

You simply cannot make a list of top rom-coms and not include this *iconic* film. I’ll skip the summary for this one, because I sincerely hope you’ve all seen it. For starters, every scene with Kathryn Hahn — absolutely hilarious. Next, the chemistry that Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey share on screen. Aren’t they such a perfect pair? And that motorcycle scene?! So dreamy and authentic. Finally, we have the reveal of the back of Andie’s stunning yellow dress — I think every girl in the world has dreamed of rocking that dress. I can go on and on about this movie, but truly, if you haven’t seen it, you definitely should!

He’s Just Not That Into You

While this movie might make you sad at times, it’s really a fantastic film. It’s one of the first rom coms to explore the concept of modern dating: the “rules”, the games, and all those mixed signals. You’re bound to relate to several of the characters and storylines, because let’s face it, we’ve all been there! Besides being a surprisingly realistic film, the cast is phenomenal (and gorgeous!). For many of us, this movie is a gentle wake-up call to have respect for yourself and to understand that sometimes, he’s just not that into you…

10 Things I Hate About You

This is an incredible teen classic starring Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger. A modern rendition of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew, set in a 1990s American high school, where bad boy Patrick (played by Ledger) is essentially hired by a classmate to date anti-social Kat (played by Stiles).

A mixture of teenage angst, passion and heartbreak, this is truly one of the best rom-coms of all time. May this movie always be in your DVD library!

The Proposal

We had to include a little bit of Canada in the list! Okay, granted, nothing is really Canadian about this movie, other than the fact that the workaholic female lead (Margaret, played by Sandra Bullock) is about to get deported back to Canada after violating her work visa. The only solution she can think of? Marrying her assistant, Andrew (Ryan Reynolds) in order to keep her job. Of course, this is all business for both of them, because if Andrew refuses, then he will lose his job as well.

I’ll spare you the spoilers, but after a great deal of awkward moments, genuine connection and a whole lot of laughs, maybe this marriage isn’t a big hoax after all? An incredibly funny movie about finding love in the most unexpected places!
